This style gets its name from Elwoods Pass in the San Jaun Mountains. This road was created in early 1876 for travels to the hot springs in Pagosa.
The road today is not easy to travel, it is required to have a high clearance 4x4. It is maintained by a jeep club out of Durango, CO.
If you have a high clearance 4x4, we highly recommended using the longitude and latitude numbers above.
